Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was hospitalized Monday morning after being assaulted in New York, the team announced. Hickman sustained minor injuries in the incident and was released from the hospital later in the day.

The assault occurred at a New York City hotel, according to the Browns’ statement, per Daniel Oyefusi. Hickman received treatment at a local hospital before returning home to rest with his family.

Statement from Browns spokesperson: “Safety Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel. Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family.”

Cleveland has not provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding the attack, and Hickman has not released a public statement.
The New York Post reported that the alleged assault took place around 4:30 a.m. inside the lobby of the Sixty LES Hotel in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Citing police sources, the report states that four individuals attacked Hickman following a dispute.

The group fled the scene after the altercation, and Hickman was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made and no further updates had been released by authorities or the team.

Hickman has spent his entire three-year NFL career with the Browns after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He worked his way into a part-time starting role during his first two seasons before earning a full-time spot in 2025.
Hickman started all 17 games this past season and finished third on the team with 103 total tackles while adding two interceptions, seven pass breakups and one tackle for loss.
