DANBURY – Bishop McGuinness beat North Stokes 62-34 in Greater Triad 1A/2A Conference boys basketball Tuesday at North Stokes.

JJ Short had 16 points for the Villains (18-5 overall, 10-2 conference), who finished second in the conference. Thomas Thompson added 12 points while Bryce Chapman and Marlon Carson each had eight points.

In the girls game, Bishop rolled to a 64-19 win to complete a perfect run through the conference at 19-3 overall and 10-0 in the league. Claire Sullivan had 16 points, followed by Cecilia Drabik with 13 and Maddie Taylor with eight.

The Villains will play in the conference tournament starting Thursday at Chatham Central.

EAST DAVIDSON, PROVIDENCE GROVE

THOMASVILLE – East Davidson lost 69-51 against Providence Grove in Central Carolina 3A Conference boys basketball Tuesday at Providence Grove.

The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 3-17 overall and 0-10 in the conference.

In the girls game, East lost 36-32 to move to 7-14 and 4-6, taking fourth in the conference.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD BOYS, RAGSDALE

HIGH POINT – Second-seeded Southwest Guilford beat seventh-seeded Ragsdale 74-55 in the opening round of the Metro 6A/7A Conference boys basketball tournament Tuesday at Southwest.

The Cowboys will face third-seeded Western Guilford in the semifinals Thursday at Smith, which will also host Friday's championships.

Darrell Howze scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Southwest (18-5), while Brayden Gatling added 15 points and six assists, Braylon Ray had 14 points and Wesley Oxce had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD GIRLS, SMITH

GREENSBORO – Fifth-seeded Southwest Guilford lost 64-49 against fourth-seeded Smith in the first round of the Metro 6A/7A Conference girls basketball tournament Tuesday at Smith.

The Cowgirls dipped to 14-9 overall.

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN BOYS, HICKORY GROVE

CHARLOTTE – High Point Christian lost 82-60 against Hickory Grove Christian on Tuesday at Hickory Grove in the first round of the NCISAA 3A boys basketball playoffs.

The Cougars finished their season with an 8-17 record.

HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN GIRLS, ST. DAVID'S

RALEIGH – High Point Christian fell 44-22 against St. David's School on Tuesday at St. David's in the opening round of the NCISAA 3A girls basketball playoffs.

The Cougars concluded their season with a 5-10 record.

WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY BOYS, WESTMINSTER CATAWBA

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Westchester Country Day lost 62-36 against Westminster Catawba Christian on Tuesday at Westminster Catawba in the first round of the NCISAA 2A boys basketball playoffs.

The Wildcats ended their season with a 5-13 record.

PHOENIX ACADEMY, CORNERSTONE CHARTER

GREENSBORO – Fifth-seeded Phoenix Academy lost 60-42 against third-seeded Cornerstone Charter on Tuesday at Cornerstone in the opening round of the Northwest Piedmont 1A/2A Conference boys basketball tournament.

Mirony Koko scored 14 points for the Firebirds (10-15). Montgomery added 11 points, while Chayse Gallo had seven points.

CCC TOURNAMENT BRACKET SET

TRIAD – The bracket for the Central Carolina 3A Conference basketball tournament has been finalized.

Games will be Thursday at Providence Grove, Thomasville and Wheatmore and Friday at Wheatmore.

No. 2. Thomasville will welcome No. 3 Wheatmore for a boys game at 6 p.m. No. 1 Wheatmore will host No. 4 East Davidson for a girls game at 6.

On Friday at Wheatmore, the girls championship will be at 6 followed by the boys championship at 7:30.

WRESTLING

NCISAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARLOTTE – Wesleyan Christian took sixth as a team in the NCISAA wrestling championships Friday and Saturday at Charlotte Latin.

Tristen Fjeld took second at 126 pounds while reaching 100 wins for his career. Baylon Cooper (150), Bodie Welker (157) and Brennan Hudak (215) took third, while Ben Geren (144) was fifth and Sam Moore (113) was sixth.

WOMEN'S GOLF IN RIVERTOWN INTERCOLLEGIATE

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – High Point University won the RiverTowne Intercollegiate women's golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at RiverTowne Country Club for the second year in a row.

The Panthers posted a team score of 302-298-297–897 to beat second-place Coastal Carolina by 13 shots in the six-team field.

Makayla Grubb tied for second at 75-72-73–220 to lead High Point. Eva Lyle (fourth, 76-73-74–223), Anna Howerton (fifth, 75-74-75–224) and Anais Arafi (tied ninth, 76-79-75–230) also finished in the top 10.

MEN'S GOLF IN WEXFORD PLANTATION INTERCOLLEGIATE

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – High Point University took 15th in the Wexford Intercollegiate men's golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at Wexford Golf Club.

The Panthers posted a team score of 302-303-302–907. Charleston won with a score of 864. Shlok Jain (77-70-73) and Burch Harrison (69-79-72) tied for 17th to lead High Point.

BASEBALL AT WAKE FOREST

WINSTON-SALEM – High Point University lost 7-6 against No. 22 Wake Forest in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Wake.

Jake McCarter homered and drove in three runs for the Panthers (2-2). Christian Smith added two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Seojun Oh had a hit and an RBI. Nicolas Lembo also drove in a run.

Justin Silverstein took the loss in middle relief, striking out two in 2/3 innings.

High Point will host Maine for a weekend series starting Friday.

COLLINS NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE – High Point University's Aaliyah Collins has been selected the Big South Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball.

Collins, a graduate guard, totaled 53 points while playing 84 minutes across two contests. She had 24 points at home against Longwood, adding six assists, three steals, two blocks and shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Collins matched her career high with 29 points in the win against Charleston Southern, going 12-for-21 from the field. She also knocked down three 3s and added three rebounds, three assists, three blocks and five steals.

BRACHBILL EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE – High Point University's Ty Brachbill has been named the Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week for baseball.

Brachbill, a junior, started game two for the Panthers in his debut against Saint Joseph's on Saturday. In six innings, he struck out nine batters, surrendering just two hits and two walks while holding the opponent to a .105 batting average.
