The Milwaukee Bucks’ two-time MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, will undoubtedly be the asset the Warriors will go all-in on. However, Leonard won’t be too far behind, as the two-time NBA champion is a phenomenal two-way stud that could be a game-changer with the Dubs if Antetokounmpo doesn’t take his talents to the Bay.
A recent bombshell report regarding Leonard should excite the Warriors as the offseason slowly inches closer.
“(The Ivica Zubac trade) all but ended a Clippers era when combined with the James Harden-to-Cleveland trade before it and has plenty of rival executives wondering if Kawhi Leonard's time there could come to an end this summer via yet another trade,” The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer wrote Sunday.
If the Clippers decide to move on from Leonard this summer, the Warriors will have a high-level backup trade plan. Missing out on Antetokounmpo would be devastating, but acquiring Leonard would keep Stephen Curry and the Warriors’ title hopes alive for the immediate future.
Leonard is averaging 27.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game with the Clippers this season, shooting 49.2% from the field and 38.3% from beyond the arc.
The fact that executives around the league have a hunch that Leonard and the Clippers could soon part ways is a massive win for the Dubs.
