Durham Regional Police say members of their East Division Criminal Investigations Branch concluded the investigation this month into various banking frauds involving numbered corporations, forged documents, fraudulent cheques and fabricated employment records.

The accused allegedly “purchased vehicles and acquired credit card and line of credit debt close to $100,000 by using these fraudulent means.”

Investigators located two suspects and took them into custody without incident on Feb. 14.

THERAPIST ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING AUTISTIC KIDS IN MILTON

A 25-year-old man is accused of assaulting two children with autism while working as a therapist in Milton.

Halton Regional Police say officers from their Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit began investigating after receiving a complaint about an applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapist on staff at Spectacokids, located on Bronte St. S., north of Derry Rd. W.

As a result of that investigation, a suspect was arrested on Tuesday.

Muaz Sarfraz, of Mississauga, is charged with six counts of assault, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The allegations against the accused have yet to be proven in court.

ABA therapy is an evidence-based, scientific approach to understanding and modifying behaviour, primarily used to support children with autism and developmental disorders.

According to their website, Spectacokids is an ABA, speech and occupational therapy service provider that offers in-center and in-home services.

“The alleged offences occurred during recent therapy sessions at the Bronte St. S. location,” police said in a statement released Wednesday.

“During the investigation, police identified two victims,” police allege. “Both victims are children with autism who were alone with the accused at the time of the offences.”

Investigators have released a photo of the accused out of concern for the possibility of additional alleged victims.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call police at 905-825-4777, ext. 8970, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
