McAuley advances to Class 1 District 5 semifinals

No. 3 seed McAuley Catholic High School took on No. 6 Sheldon High School on Tuesday night at Greenfield High School in the first round of the Class 1 District 5 boys basketball tournament.

The Warriors got 7 points from Connor Taffner and 6 from Thomas Perrin as they exploded for 19 points as a team and pulled away for a 29-14 lead at halftime. They went on to claim a 53-37 victory over the Panthers.
McAuley (16-11) was outscored in the third quarter 13-11 but it held on and won the fourth 13-12.
Taffner finished the game with 18 points and Perrin added 14. Sheldon got 24 from Aiden Bogart. The Panthers end their season 10-15.
The Warriors will meet No. 2 Golden City High School on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles (18-9) defeated No. 7 Fair Play High School 65-36 on Tuesday. This will be the third meeting between McAuley and Golden City this season. The Warriors won the first meeting 52-48 and the Eagles got revenge in the McAuley Catholic tournament in a 64-51 final.
