As previously reported, Asencio collided heavily with teammate Eduardo Camavinga while challenging for an aerial ball.

The clash immediately raised concern among players and medical staff, with the young defender requiring urgent attention on the pitch.

Following medical assessments, the club confirmed that Asencio would not be available for Monday’s fixture.

However, it is the player’s own words that truly reveal how serious and frightening the moment was.

Asencio opens up

Speaking about the collision, Asensio explained on Real Madrid’s official channel what he remembers from that split second on the pitch. He said,

“I remember it was an aerial ball and I went to challenge for it, and the last thing I remember after that is being on the ground with the doctors, after the heavy blow I received from Camavinga.

“I lost track of time. I didn’t know where I was or what was happening.

“Then I started to regain consciousness in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms. It was a very uncomfortable moment.”

The defender then described how disoriented he felt in the immediate aftermath and how the medical team acted quickly to stabilise him. He added,

“I thank the doctor for everything he did and all the medical staff. I remember that my vision wasn’t completely clear, I wasn’t able to move fully, and I lost strength.

“It was a somewhat uncomfortable experience.”

Grateful for the support

Once at the hospital, Asensio slowly began to understand the scale of the concern and the support he had received.

He shared his gratitude towards the fans and the club, saying,

“At the Bernabeu, I couldn’t feel it, but since I got to the hospital, and after I regained consciousness, I was able to use my phone and see all the messages of support.

“The truth is that I’m very grateful. The Real Madrid fans have welcomed me in a very special way and I feel that, so I want to thank them.”

Lastly, he also highlighted the strong support from inside the dressing room.

“The team has also been very supportive. Since I’ve been able to use my phone, I’ve received messages from everyone. I didn’t even know when the incident happened or how the game ended.

“The doctors were telling me some things, but I didn’t know if there was much time left in the game. But as soon as I used my phone in the hospital, I saw all the messages.”
