Even late into his career, Mack continues to produce at a high level and remains one of the most respected edge defenders in the league. During the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers, Mack once again showed he can still disrupt offenses consistently, finishing with 32 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. His power, hand usage, and football IQ still allow him to win reps even as he moves into his mid-30s.
For Tampa Bay, adding a veteran like Mack would immediately raise the floor of the edge group. The Bucs have flashed young talent along the defensive front, but consistency getting after the quarterback has been an area the team has struggled with, amassing only 37 sacks in 2025. Mack would bring proven production along with leadership, something that becomes especially valuable for a defense looking to rebound after a rough season marred by injuries, as well as mold a young position group, including young star Yaya Diaby and "rookie" David Walker, who missed his true rookie year due to a torn ACL.
Financially, the move could make sense depending on how his market develops. Mack has recently played on short-term deals, and his projected market value sits in the mid-teens annually. That type of contract structure could fit Tampa Bay’s approach, adding a high-impact veteran without committing long-term money to an aging position group.
However, they could have to bid higher to beat out other suitors. Tampa did give Haason Reddick a one-year deal worth $14 million with $12 million guaranteed, and may be enticed to offer more to the likes of Mack to try and resurrect their pass rush.
