Recently appointed at the helm of the Sparrowhawks, French coach Patrice Neveu has expressed optimism about the sporting project led by the Togolese Football Federation.

"The project caught my interest right away. The aim is to work on a long-term plan to rebuild and reform the national team. Togo has a rich history in African football, especially with its participation in the 2006 World Cup. My role, as an experienced coach, is to bring the necessary elements to relaunch this team and restore its ambition," he said in an exclusive statement to Foot Africa.

"Today, Togo is ranked 124th in the world. So, we must first achieve short-term results while building something solid for the future. The goal is to establish a clear and sustainable organization. We can draw inspiration from examples like Mauritania (a team he managed from 2012 to 2014), which managed to gradually build a competitive squad thanks to strong foundations and youth development. The national team must be a showcase, able to convince and unite," he continued.

There's plenty of work ahead for the former Syli National coach, whose first challenge will be to secure qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027).
