Nebraska sweeps South Dakota State in doubleheader home opener

Nebraska softball (16-5) held its home opener on Thursday against South Dakota State (12-11) in a doubleheader. The Huskers swept the day, outscoring the Jackrabbits 17-4.

Nebraska started the day with a 9-4 victory, scoring seven unanswered to put the game away. The Huskers erased a 4-2 deficit in the third, tying the game up before scoring five runs in the fourth. The team earned 11 hits, eight RBIs and two home runs.

Hannah Camenzind drove in a season-high three RBIs off a three-run home run in the fourth. Jordy Frahm batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Ava Kuszak finished 2-for-3, earning two RBIs following a two-run home run. Jesse Farrell also hit 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Alexis Jensen (7-2) picked up the win in the circle in her second complete game of the year. She fired a career-high 13 strikeouts and allowed four runs and seven hits.

The Huskers delivered another five-run inning in game two, going up 5-0 by the second inning and leading to a five-inning win. The team tallied just eight hits for eight RBIs but picked up three home runs.

Kacie Hoffmann grabbed the first home run, hitting a two-run blast in the second. She finished 2-for-3 on the day. Kuszak hit the second home run, delivering a solo shot in the third. She batted 1-for-2 with a walk. Bella Bacon drove in the final home run, walking the game off with a solo shot.

Frahm (5-3) earned the win in the circle, pitching all five innings and allowing five hits and no runs. She also fired nine strikeouts.

Nebraska remains at home for its next series and hosts Omaha for a two-game stretch, starting on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT on B1G+.
