For a few moments on Friday, it appeared to be confirmed that the Green Bay Packers would be moving on from longtime DT Rashan Gary.
The 28-year-old, who is projected to carry a cap hit of around $28 million in 2026, was considered a potential cap casualty heading into the offseason. And with an Instagram post on Friday, Gary said a goodbye to Green Bay, seemingly confirming he was heading for free agency.
But soon after, Gary deleted that post — and reports afterward indicated that his Instagram account may have been hacked.
Here's what to know about Gary's since-deleted farewell Instagram post to the Packers.

Was Rashan Gary released?
As of the afternoon of Friday, March 6, Gary has not been released by the Packers. Various insiders across the NFL noted that Gary announced his farewell to Green Bay via Instagram, but as Tom Pelissero noted, there was nothing official.
Rashan Gary has not yet been traded or released, per source. All options are on the table. But obviously, Gary does not expect to return to Green Bay. https://t.co/bQPzeTJup7

Coming into this offseason, there was reason to believe the Packers could cut Gary. He's projected to carry a cap hit of $28 million in the new league year, per Spotrac, a large enough figure that Green Bay could justify releasing him to use that money elsewhere after Gary posted 7.5 sacks in 2025.
While Gary has remained one of the NFL's better defensive tackles, he was a speculated cap casualty. With his Instagram post, he appeared to confirm that outcome — but now, nothing can be considered official.

Rashan Gary Instagram announcement
Gary had a message posted to his Instagram on Friday afternoon that bid farewell to Green Bay, where he's played since his rookie year in 2019.
"When I got the call in 2019, it was one of the greatest moments of my life, and it always will be. The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget. Like all chapters in life, this one has come to an end," Gary's post said. "I want to thank everyone who has supported me and my family throughout the years. The love, the energy and the memories mean more than words can explain.
On to my next stop — nowhere near done yet."

Was Rashan Gary's Instagram hacked?
After Gary deleted his Instagram post, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported that Gary had not been told he was to be released or traded.
"In fact, his IG account was hacked, per the source," Demovsky wrote.
Bill Huber of Packers on SI also reported that Gary's Instagram had been hacked.
While Gary has yet to confirm whether his goodbye graphic to Green Bay was due to a hacked account, that report indicates Gary's future with the Packers at least remains up in the air.
Rashan Gary contract
Gary is playing on the four-year, $96 million rookie extension he signed with the Packers that began in 2023. He is under contract through the 2027 season and would become an unrestricted free agent in 2028, per Spotrac.
