The Buckeyes hired Mateo Kambui on Friday as assistant offensive line coach. The hiring especially makes sense when you consider that Kambui spent the last two seasons working alongside Arthur Smith with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ohio State hired Smith this past offseason to become its offensive coordinator, and Smith clearly feels like Kambui is a promising young coach who can help in Columbus.
Mateo played center in college at Florida A&M, starting 22 games. He then spent two seasons playing in the NFL for the Denver Broncos. Once his playing days were over, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern and then coached running backs at Florida A&M.

Kambui will replace Marcus Johnson, who was on the staff and left for the same role at Arkansas. Ohio State is looking to improve its offensive line help from last year, and they hope Mateo can assist in that.
