Tournament basketball is fast approaching, and the UConn men’s basketball team is in position to make yet another deep NCAA tournament run and try for its third national title in the last four seasons. The Huskies are an absolute lock to make the tournament for a program record sixth-straight season, and had an inside track at the final 1-seed prior to an unfortunate regular season finale loss at Marquette.

Even with two “bad” losses in Big East play to Creighton and Marquette, UConn’s resumé is still one of the best in the country. The Huskies are 27-4 overall, with losses to St. John’s and Arizona in addition to the aforementioned Creighton and Marquette games. They rank No. 5 in Wins Above Bubble (WAB) and No. 9 in NET, two key tools used by the tournament committee for seeding.

Ahead of the Big East tournament, most bracketology “experts” have the Huskies as one of the top 2-seeds. ESPN has the Huskies as the 2-seed in the East Region, ideal for UConn fans looking to travel and see the team play in its first weekend. CBS Sports has the Huskies also as a 2-seed, but in the Midwest.

In order to climb back into the 1-seed conversation, UConn likely needs to win the Big East Tournament and beat St. John’s in the process. Fortunately for the Huskies, FanDuel has UConn as the odds-on favorite to win the tournament at -115. But even if the Huskies can win the Big East, a 1-seed is not a lock — at least one of Duke, Michigan, Arizona, Florida and potentially Houston would need to lose to give UConn a shot.

Regardless of seeding, the Huskies are once again real contenders to make noise in March and April. FanDuel has UConn at +2000 to win the national championship in Indianapolis this season, tied for the sixth-best odds with Illinois. Michigan (+320) is the current favorite, followed by Duke (+320) and Arizona (+550). The Huskies also have the seventh-best odds to get to the Final Four this season, coming in at +420.

With at least one more game to play before Selection Sunday, UConn’s odds will likely fluctuate until the bracket is revealed Sunday night. But a strong performance from the Huskies in New York City could vault UConn back into the conversation as one of the top title favorites.
