MSU basketball Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals matchup finalized for Friday

· Yahoo Sports

It's official... we have an opponent lined up for the Spartans in the Big Ten Tournament.

After watching the others play the first three days of the Big Ten Tournament, Michigan State will finally take the court on Friday against No. 6 seed UCLA. The Spartans are the No. 3 seed in this year's conference tournament, which resulted in a triple-bye until the quarterfinals, so Friday's game against the Bruins will be their first in this year's event.

UCLA opened their Big Ten Tournament stay with a relatively convincing win over No. 14 seed Rutgers on Thursday. The Bruins led throughout the second half and fought off each of the Scarlet Knights' pushes to advance to the quarterfinals.

Michigan State and UCLA only met once during the regular season, with the Spartans making easy work of the Bruins in the lone meeting. The Spartans beat the Bruins by more than 20 points in a February meeting from the Breslin Center.

Michigan State comes into the Big Ten Tournament looking to solidify a spot as a No. 2 seed in the big dance that begins next week. The Spartans finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-6, and are widely projected to be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. But, that may depend on how they play in the Big Ten Tournament this weekend, most likely needing at least one win to lock up that seed line.

Tipoff between the Spartans and Bruins will be around 9 p.m. ET on Friday -- but that is contingent on what time the game prior ends. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
