THROGGS NECK — The Plattsburgh State baseball team enjoyed a good, non-league weekend on the road, winning four of five games to improve its record to 9-1 on the season.
FRIDAY
NEW JERSEY CC 1
PLATTSBURGH 0
Andre Dean tossed a nine-inning shutout for New Jersey City College, and Nick Vaughn’s RBI single in the sixth inning was the lone score in the game.
Dean allowed six hits, walked four, hit one and struck out eight. The tough-luck loss went to Jack Castillo, who pitched the first six innings for the Cardinals and allowed four hits, three walks and struck out six.
“It was a good pitching duel,” Plattsburgh State head coach Sam Quinn-Loeb said. “He (Dean) is their No. 1, and we had opportunities to score.”
Bostyn Duquette went two-for-two with a walk for Plattsburgh.
SATURDAY
PLATTSBURGH 7

The Cardinals erased a 6-4 deficit with three runs in the fourth and held on from there for the win.
Kyle Sperring picked up the win in relief, and Liam Suozzo pitched the seventh inning for the save.
No Cardinal had more than one hit, and runs were driven in by Jonathan Beale, Frankie Kowal, Ryan Hart, Logan Provost and Duquette. Jackson Pam, Kowal and William Keefe rapped doubles.
“We got our bats back on track,” Quinn-Loeb said. “We got off to a good start to the game and then had some clutch hits to go back on top in the fourth. Suozzo was good in relief for us again.”

This one was over early with the Cardinals scoring five runs in the second and eight more in the third for a 13-1 lead after three.
Starter Ryan Loughlin picked up the win as he struck out five in going the first three innings.
Plattsburgh had 13 players get at least one hit. Marc Cancelliere, Colin Ross and David Wallace led the way with two each. Cancelliere drove in three runs, while Ross and Wallace added two RBIs apiece.
SUNDAY
PLATTSBURGH 14
MARITIME 5
The first game was a nine-inning contest, and the Cardinals used that to their advantage. Trailing 4-2 after seven, Plattsbugh scored four runs in the eighth on a Michael Piccirillo grand slam and added eight more in the ninth with Piccirillo getting a two-run double.
Piccirillo’s grand slam came with two outs in the eighth.
“He (Piccirillo) had a 2-0 count and took advantage of the short porch in right,” Quinn-Loeb said.
“The coaches talked about it before the game, and we decided on the one nine-inning game and then a seven.”
John Esposito got the pitching win in relief.
Beale paced the Cardinals with three hits while Pam, who also homered; Austin Caldwell; Hart; Tyler Martin; Piccirillo; and Warren chipped in with two hits each.

MARITIME 1
Winning pitcher Kyan Zamaniyan went five innings and he gave up six hits, walked two and fanned five. Dom Benedetto tossed two scoreless innings in relief for the save.
The Cardinals, leading by a 2-1 score after six innings, got some breathing room with three runs in the seventh.
Ross rapped a solo homer and RBI single, while Pam added a RBI double and Caldwell a RBI groundout. Ross and Pam finished the game with two hits each as the Cardinals had 10 hits in all.
“Kyan pitched well, and we were able to get some clutch hits later in the game,” Quinn-Loeb said.
The Cardinals are scheduled to be back on the diamond today at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Plattsburgh then works it way back up north to open its SUNYAC season over the weekend against conference power Cortland.
