Sweet heist? 12 tonnes of KitKat stolen is an Easter disaster
· The South African

In what might be the sweetest crime of the year, a truck carrying more than 12 tonnes of KitKat bars has vanished somewhere between Italy and Poland – leaving chocolate lovers heartbroken and thieves presumably very well-snacked.
Parent company Nestlé confirmed that a shipment of over 400 000 chocolate bars was stolen during transit, just weeks before Easter – arguably the worst possible timing, short of stealing coffee on a Monday morning.

A “Break” Taken Too Literally
KitKat’s iconic slogan, “Have a break,” has clearly been reinterpreted by the culprits – who appear to have taken a permanent break… with the entire truck.
Authorities say the vehicle left central Italy en route to Poland, but somewhere along the journey, it – and a small mountain of chocolate – simply disappeared.
Europe’s Sweet Tooth in Crisis
With Easter around the corner, the theft has sparked fears of a continental crisis: empty shelves, disappointed children, and adults pretending they weren’t buying the chocolate “for themselves anyway.”
Shoppers may soon find themselves staring into barren confectionery aisles, whispering: “It’s okay… I didn’t need that KitKat.” (They absolutely did.)
Black Market Bonanza?
Nestlé has warned that the missing bars could start popping up in “unofficial sales channels” – which is a polite way of saying: if someone offers you a suspiciously cheap box of KitKats out of the back of a van… maybe ask questions.
The Real Victims
While police continue their investigation, the real tragedy remains clear: somewhere out there, 413 793 KitKats are being eaten without being properly appreciated.
And that, perhaps, is the greatest crime of all.
