More South Africans will soon be able to apply for Smart IDs through their bank, as Standard Bank continues to expand its rollout of digital ID services.

The bank has added four new branches across the country where customers can now access Smart ID services, marking another step in the broader push to bring government services closer to where people already bank.
A growing network
The expansion forms part of the Department of Home Affairs’ plan to partner with banks and modernise ID services.
At these branches, qualifying customers can apply for a Smart ID, complete the process in-branch, as well as collect their ID once it is ready.
The move is aimed at reducing long queues at Home Affairs offices and making the process more convenient.

Standard Bank’s Smart ID services are now available at these 16 branches, and applications cost R140:
