Mumbai: The Kurar police have arrested three individuals for allegedly pouring acid and creating a riot. Police said that two shopkeepers involved in the jewellery business had a dispute over a monetary issue, which escalated into an acid attack.
Umesh Patil, Police Inspector, Kurtar police, stated, "Seven people were injured, of whom five are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police said that no one sustained serious injuries as the acid was diluted with water and is typically used for polishing jewellery."
Police said that two cases have been registered in connection with the incident. One case has been filed against Samarbahaddur Singh (38), a resident of Kurar village, for allegedly throwing acid. Another case of rioting has been registered against eight individuals based on Singh’s complaint.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 3:30 p.m. in Kurar village. Singh runs a jewellery polishing shop, and next to his shop is a jewellery-making unit owned by Mayur Kanojiya (20). The two frequently conducted business with each other.
In one transaction, Kanojiya mistakenly paid ₹27,000 instead of ₹26,000. He later demanded the excess ₹1,000 from Singh. However, Singh returned only ₹600, deducting ₹400 as labour charges.
Subsequently, Kanojiya’s father went to Singh’s shop and demanded the remaining amount, but Singh allegedly refused to return it. Following this, Mayur Kanojiya went to Singh’s shop along with seven to eight friends and relatives, aged between 20 and 40, all residents of the same area.
An argument broke out between the two parties, which soon escalated into a physical altercation. During the clash, Singh allegedly threw acid mixed with water, used for polishing jewellery, at the group, injuring seven individuals. Singh’s brother, who tried to intervene, suffered burns on his back and has been hospitalised. Kanojiya and his supporters also sustained burns on different parts of their bodies. Singh, too, suffered minor burns in the incident.
All the injured were admitted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West. Two have been discharged, while five are still undergoing treatment. Police said that the injured are out of danger and are likely to be discharged soon, as the quantity of acid was small and most victims suffered only minor splashes.
Police have arrested Singh along with two others, Hemant Rathor (20) and Nitin Dhobi (24), who were among those discharged from the hospital.
Initially, Kanojiya filed a complaint against Singh for allegedly throwing acid. Subsequently, Singh filed a counter-complaint against Kanojiya and his associates for rioting.
