The Red Sox are near the bottom of the league in runs scored. Coming into the season, the offense had high expectations, but things have not clicked yet. After an 8-6 loss to the San Diego Padres on Sunday, Anthony was very critical of how the team has played so far.
“We simply just need to be better…," Anthony told reporters after the game. "It's just a tough stretch, and we need to find a way to just bring more energy and just be better. This is unacceptable. It's unacceptable to the fans. It's unacceptable to the standard that we set for ourselves.”
Tough stretch might be an understatement, but Anthony seems to know that the Red Sox can turn the corner at any given moment. However, it starts with having a strong mindset. He made it clear he wants the team to play with more energy. Perhaps that could be a key to getting the offense on a roll.
The Red Sox have too many talented hitters for the struggles to continue for too long. They added Willson Contreras in the offseason to bring some more power to the lineup, and they added Caleb Durbin as well. Durbin has struggled so far, but he was one of the best rookies in baseball last season.
The Milwaukee Brewers are coming into town on Monday, and they pose a great challenge for the Red Sox. They are one of the best teams in the league, and Anthony and the offense may need to figure things out sooner rather than later before things get out of hand in the standings. Red Sox fans can perhaps find peace in the fact that the team is aware of its flaws and is working hard to get back on track.
