Rutgers forward Bryce Dortch is expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens up at midnight tonight, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. With this announcement, Dortch is the first of many expected departures to be announced over the upcoming days.

Over the past two seasons, Dortch saw the court as both a forward and a center. In the 43 games he made an appearance in, he averaged 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound sophomore forward from Somerville, Massachusetts joined the Scarlet Knights as a top 200 player in the 2024 recruiting class. Him, along with Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, Lathan Sommerville and Dylan Grant, combined to make the sixth best recruiting class in the country according to On3.

Dortch will leave Rutgers with two years of eligibility remaining because he opted to burn his redshirt his freshman year despite his original intentions to take the year to put on weight. That season, the Knights were struggling with depth at center before Emmanuel Ogbole suffered an injury that knocked him out for the season. Dortch would burn his redshirt with 12 games left in the season.

He saw a slight jump in production during his sophomore season as Ogbole’s understudy. Last season he averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds, playing in 31 games and making 3 starts. He averaged 13.3 minutes per game last season.

He now moves on to finish his collegiate career elsewhere.
