For a Tuesday night game in early April, the stakes were remarkably high for the Boston Red Sox.

Coming off a 2-8 start and three straight losses, the reeling Red Sox desperately needed a win against the 8-2 Milwaukee Brewers. Fortunately, they had the perfect guy on the mound in Garrett Crochet.

Crochet rose to the occasion, outdueling Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski on a cold, windy night at Fenway Park and pitching Boston to a much-needed 3-2 victory.

After the game, Crochet tipped his cap to Misiorowski, who allowed three runs on two hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in his first career start at Fenway.

"That's a really good kid on the other side," Crochet said during his postgame press conference. "We made him throw strikes and we capitalized there in that inning, but clearly the stuff's incredible. We were grinding all night just for baserunners, period... A night like tonight, you know who's on the other side, and you have to bring your A-game."

Fortunately, Crochet had his best stuff against the 24-year-old flamethrower, bouncing back from last week's "unacceptable" loss against the Houston Astros with 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven and throwing 65 of his 107 pitches for strikes.

More importantly, the Red Sox ace outlasted Misiorowski, completing one more inning than him and helping preserve Boston's bullpen for Wednesday's series finale in the process.

With the win, Crochet improved to 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA, evening the series at one game apiece. The Red Sox will go for their first series win of the season in Wednesday afternoon's rubber match behind Sonny Gray.
