Suspect sought for sex attack in city’s west end; pedestrian struck and killed in Ajax

The hunt is on for a sexual predator who attacked a jogger in the city’s west end Monday night.

Toronto Police say officers responded to a call for a sexual assault in the area of Bloor St. W. and St. Helens Ave.  – just west of Lansdowne Ave. – shortly before 10 p.m.

“It is reported that the victim was jogging in the area,” police said in a statement released Wednesday, explaining the attacked approached from behind and sexually assaulted the victim.

The attacker then ran off heading south on St. Helens Ave.

Police have not said if the jogger was a male or a female.

Investigators have released an image of a suspect  – whose gender has also not been revealed – hoping someone recognizes the person and come forward to help identify them.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-6 with a skinny build. They was wearing a black hooded sweater with the hood up, a face covering and black pants.

MAN, 77, STRUCK AND KILLED CROSSING AJAX STREET

A senior citizen was struck by a car and killed while he was crossing a street in Ajax on Tuesday night.

Durham Regional Police say officers responded to the pedestrian-involved collision in the area of Westney Rd. S. and Bramwell Dr.  –  north of Hwy. 401  – around 10:10 p.m.

“A 77-year-old male was crossing Westney Rd. S. when they were struck by a southbound Hyundai sedan being driven by a 22-year-old female,” police said in a statement released Wednesday.

Police said the pedestrian suffered “serious life-threatening injuries.”

The man was rushed to a Toronto hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

“The driver of the Hyundai was not injured,” police said, adding she remained on scene.

“Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation,” police explained. “The cause of this collision remains under investigation.”

HOUSE AND VEHICLE SHOT UP IN GEORGINA

A house and a vehicle were shot up in Georgina  – north of Keswick – early Wednesday.

York Regional Police say officers  responded to a report of the sound of gunshots on Clarlyn Dr. near Lake Dr. N.  – north of Old Homestead Rd. –  just before 4:20 a.m.

“When officers arrived, they found a house and vehicle which had been damaged as a result of gunfire,” police said in a statement released Wednesday, adding no injuries were reported.

No suspect or suspect vehicle descriptions were immediately available.

“Investigators believe the house was the intended target of the shooting,” police said. “And there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”

“Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have surveillance video, and to anyone who may have captured dashcam video on the roadways around the area at the time of the shooting to come forward,” police added.
