Ege Demir becomes 7th Duck to enter transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks men's basketball roster is thinning very quickly with the opening of the transfer portal. On Wednesday, junior center Ege Demir became the seventh Duck to enter the portal since it opened on Apr. 5, joining Jackson Shelstad, Kwame Evans Jr., Wei Lin, Dezdrick Lindsay, Devon Pryer and JJ Frakes.

Demir joined the Oregon program after three seasons in the Turkey Basketball Super League, where he served a primarily bench role. During the 2024-25 campaign, he averaged 5.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

During his time with the Ducks, Demir battled a shoulder injury that limited him to 19 games. He averaged 2.2 points and 3.5 rebounds on 44.4% from the floor, struggling to see much time behind star center Nate Bittle. Now, despite Bittle exhausting his final season of eligibility, Demir is also headed out the door.

Just three scholarship players remain on the Oregon roster: Sean Stewart, Efe Vatan and Jamari Phillips. Stewart and Phillips received rotational minutes a season ago, while Vatan appeared in just five games.

Coming off a 12-20 season and a 16th-place finish in the Big Ten, head coach Dana Altman and his staff continue to be dealt crushing blows just days into the opening of the transfer portal.
