In recent months, South Africa has seen a steady rise in product recalls, ranging from food items to vehicles and household goods, raising concerns about consumer safety standards.
Which power banks are affected
The recall applies to specific ESR HaloLock Kickstand Wireless Power Banks, model 2G505B.
These devices were imported from China and sold locally on online platforms, including Takealot, between 2023 and 2024.
The affected units are typically black and can be identified by five circular LED display lights.
According to the supplier, the issue lies with the device’s lithium-ion battery. The NCC said there is a risk that the battery may overheat during use, leading to fires or burns to users.
Because of this, the recall has been issued as a precaution to prevent potential harm.
What consumers need to do
Consumers who have purchased the affected power banks are advised to stop using them immediately. The NCC has instructed customers to return the product to the point of purchase to receive a refund.
