Illinois' No. 3 is still going to be a menace to Big Ten defenses in 2026 ... and he hopes 2027, too.
But instead of handoffs and pitches from Luke Altmyer, Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond graduate Kaden Feagin will be catching passes from Katin Houser this season. And blocking for him too.
Hard to predict how the transition from running back to tight end will go for Feagin, but the move makes sense for the player and the program.
Illinois, which has talent and depth at running back, adds another offensive threat. Imagine being a Big Ten linebacker or defensive back as speedy and large Feagin heads your way. Yikes.
For Feagin, it gives him another way to reach the ultimate goal, playing in the NFL. If he shows off the receiver skills that he hinted at during the early part of his career, Feagin can become a major weapon. One you can expect offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr. to use over and over and over again.
Winning programs — which is what Illinois has become during the Bret Bielema era — find ways to get the best players on the field. With his combination of size, speed and power, Feagin is one of the program's top assets. Whatever the position.
