The No. 9 Seminoles fell 6-5 in eight innings to No. 23 Stanford on Sunday afternoon, dropping the series finale after the Cardinal delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded.

For the second straight game, FSU (36-7, 12-3 ACC) struck first. Jaysoni Beachum opened the game with a single and Ashtyn Danley drew a walk before Bella Ruggiero drove in the game’s first run with an RBI single.

Stanford (26-12, 12-6) answered immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

After scoreless second and third innings, the Seminoles surged ahead in the fourth. Marin Heller and Makenna Sturgis singled to set the table for Isa Torres, who blasted her 10th home run of the season to give FSU a 4-3 advantage.

Beachum extended the lead in the sixth, launching her seventh homer of the year over the center-field wall to make it 5-3. Stanford responded again in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs to tie the game at 5.

Danley worked a scoreless seventh inning to send the game to extras, but Stanford capitalized in the eighth. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Cardinal lined a walk-off single to secure the win.

Florida State returns home next weekend to host North Carolina. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
