BYU added its second transfer portal commitment as Syracuse Forward Tyler Betsey is transferring to BYU. Travis Branham of 247 Sports first had the news.

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds, Tyler is a floor stretcher that can play either the wing or at the stretch four. As a sophomore this past season while averaging 18 minutes per game, Tyler averaged 6.8 points and 2.8 rebounds on 50-123 (41%) three-point shooting. Betsey is a three-point specialist — 73% of his attempts came from beyond the arc. Betsey shot 44% from three in ACC play, which was #4 in the conference.

Kevin Young wants to add more shooting, and Betsey is a great fit for that. He can play either the wing or can play a stretch four role for BYU. Betsey could contend for starting minutes, but more likely will be one of the BYU’s bench guys in the rotation as they look to increase their depth from last season. Betsey came off the bench in all 31 games he played for Syracuse this past season.

Tyler doesn’t offer a lot in terms of passing and playmaking, but as a catch-and-shoot guy with size he has a definitive role that Kevin Young can put him in.

Tyler will be a junior this coming season and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
