Burnley vs Manchester City: Match preview, predicted line-ups, team news and prediction

Burnley host Manchester City in the Premier League at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening.

After their emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Burnley in September’s reverse fixture, City will be targeting another league double as they press on in the title race.

Match preview

Manchester City come into this clash on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 win over league leaders and fellow title contenders Arsenal.

The Citizens struck first through Rayan Cherki, who produced a moment of brilliance in the 16th minute, weaving past defenders before firing home to give the hosts an early advantage.

Arsenal responded quickly, with Kai Havertz capitalising on a Gianluigi Donnarumma’s error to level the score in the 18th minute, ensuring the game remained finely balanced heading into the break.

The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Erling Haaland found the net, ending his recent goal drought and restoring City’s lead with what proved to be the winning goal.

Currently three points behind Arsenal with a game in hand, City travel to Turf Moor on Wednesday, and a win would move them to the summit of the Premier League for the first time since August 21, 2025, and simultaneously confirm Burnley’s relegation.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League games against Burnley (D1) since a 1-0 loss at Turf Moor in March 2015.

Burnley’s survival hopes are fading fast, with Scott Parker’s side locked in a fierce relegation battle, and a defeat to City would seal their fate.

The Clarets suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at survival hopefuls Nottingham Forest last time out, which dragged them deeper into the relegation mire.

Burnley have managed just one win in 19 Premier League meetings with Manchester City (D3, L15), losing each of their last 11, their longest-ever losing streak against a single opponent in their league history.

Team news

Burnley will be without Zeki Amdouni, Josh Cullen, Hannibal Mejbri, Connor Roberts and Jordan Beyer due to injuries, while Axel Tuanzebe will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are sidelined with injuries for the visitors, while Rodri is a doubt after he was forced off with an injury against Arsenal.

Predicted line-ups

Burnley (4-2-3-1): Dubravka, Walker, Ekdal, Laurent, Esteve, Hartman, Florentino, Ugochukwu, Ward-Prowse, Anthony, Flemming.

Manchester City (4-3-3): Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly, Gonzalez, Bernardo, Semenyo, Cherki, Doku, Haaland.

Prediction: Burnley 0-4 Manchester City.
