Why the Colts selected LB CJ Allen

What Ballard had to say: "We've liked CJ through the whole process. He stands for all the right stuff. He's an athletic, fast MIKE. He'll be a green dot guy for us from the get-go. I mean, he's a face of the program type of guy. He's a really special dude now. loves to play, serious about football. It's evident when you watch Georgia tape. I mean, he shows up and look, I mean, Kirby (Smart) and Will (Muschamp) both, Muschamp, who's been a friend a long time, like they couldn't, they were affusive and what kind of player this kid is. So, it's a good fit for us."

CJ Allen's fit with the Colts: As Ballard described, he will be the MIKE linebacker for this defense, filling the role that Zaire Franklin held for several seasons. Allen will start right away for Indianapolis.

Why the Colts selected S AJ Haulcy

What Ballard had to say: "He's an interesting guy, and what I love the most is, especially in the transfer world, but goes to New Mexico, starts, goes to Houston, starts, goes to LSU, starts. Takes the ball away. He's physical. He's going to be a good addition. We think we got younger and faster on defense."

AJ Haulcy's fit with the Colts: Haulcy will compete for playing time with Jonathan Owens, Hunter Wohler, and Juanyeh Thomas. The Colts do not view him as just a box defender, but as someone who can play deep as well. The addition of Haulcy adds another strong coverage presence to the secondary.
