The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs this offseason, and the former All-Pro wide receiver was just found not guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Diggs pleaded not guilty to charges brought by Jamila Adams, Diggs' former live-in personal chef. The trial lasted two days, and Diggs was found innocent of all of the charges brought against him.
"Diggs' attorneys said the alleged assault never happened and questioned Adams' credibility and whether the dispute was about money, relationship tensions -- including a disagreement over a planned trip to Miami -- or an alleged assault," wrote Associated Press' Leah Willingham on Tuesday. "They pointed to financial demands she made and testimony from friends and employees who said she did not appear injured in the days after the encounter, while prosecutors argued the case rests on her account of what happened inside the home. Defense attorney Andrew Kettlewell told jurors during closing arguments that prosecutors had not presented 'a single shred of credible evidence' that an assault occurred."
Diggs' release was not said to be related to the charges against him. He was a great leader for the Patriots last year, and his release likely had to do with his contract. The Patriots likely wanted him to restructure his deal, and coming off a 1,000-yard season, he likely felt he deserved the contract he had signed.
The Patriots replaced him by signing Romeo Doubs, and are expected to acquire A.J. Brown after June 1. Diggs' time with the Patriots is likely over, but now that he has been found not guilty, he should get more attention from teams in need of a wide receiver.
