Shohei Ohtani got the nod on the mound, but didn’t hit for the team yet again. He threw seven innings—reaching that milestone for the first time in nearly three years—while striking out eight batters. The right-hander allowed two runs, both of which came via solo homer.

Ohtani has exclusively pitched in three of his last four starts, and the Dodgers have failed to generate much offense without him in either game, scoring just two runs over the course of 18 innings.
The first run of the game came off the bat of Christian Walker in the bottom of the second inning, as he sent a high fly ball over the Crawford Boxes to give the Astros the lead. Nine hole hitter Braden Shewmake added onto the lead in the bottom of the third, sneaking a homer over the left field fence to double the hosts’ lead.

Despite having multiple opportunities to get on the board, though, they only scored once
They had two on with two outs in the top of the first but couldn’t drive a run in, and couldn’t get the job done with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth either.
LA finally put themselves on the board in the top of the eighth, when Kyle Tucker hit an RBI single to capitalize on a leadoff double from Dalton Rushing. Prior to Rushing’s double, the Astros had retired 10 Dodgers in a row.

The Dodgers failed to get things going in the ninth, though, and ultimately dropped the second game of the series.

Tyler Glasnow will face off against Lance McCullers Jr. in the rubber match, and will look to give the Dodgers their first series win since they took two of three against the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium last month.
The Dodgers play a day game to close the series Wednesday, and will start at 11:10 a.m. PT.
