Tennessee gets commitment from former VCU forward Christian Fermin

After a couple of weeks of trying, Tennessee has found some depth in the frontcourt. Christian Fermin, who visited Tennessee on Wednesday, committed to the Volunteers this afternoon. Fermin comes in from VCU, where he was with new Tennessee guard Terrence Hill Jr. for a couple of seasons.

Fermin appeared in just four games for the Rams this past season due to a personal matter. He appeared in 86 games over the previous three seasons, operating as VCU’s rim protector. In his last full season (2024-25), Fermin averaged 4.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. He blocked 111 shots during his time with VCU.

The 6-10, 225 pounder joins Tennessee as a redshirt senior with one season of eligibility left. He joins DeWayne Brown, Miles Rubin and Braeden Lue in the Volunteers’ frontcourt.

Barring any surprises, that should round out the Tennessee roster. The Volunteers added eight players after losing six to the portal, completely revamping the rotation. It was clear that Rick Barnes had a focus on scoring, now today he adds someone that can help protect the rim and pull down some rebounds.

According to 247Sports, Tennessee still sits with the second-ranked class in the transfer portal cycle. The Volunteers should be a top ten preseason team next season and one of the favorites to win the SEC once again.
