GRAND RAPIDS — Griffins goalie Michal Postava played 32 games in the AHL before he gave up four goals in a game for the first time.

The timing of event couldn’t have been worse for the Griffins.

Felix Ungar Sorum took advantage of a defensive puck bobble to fire a shot past Postava at 5:14 of overtime to give the Chicago Wolves a 4-3 win against the Griffins. Down 0-2 in the best-of-five series, the Griffins face elimination with two games now in Chicago this week.

The Wolves erased a 3-1 deficit just to push the game into overtime. Chicago defenseman Cal Foote scored with 6:04 left in regulation to tie the score.

On the winning goal, Axel Sandin-Pellikka made a D to D pass to William Lagesson who lost the puck in his skates. Sorum took advantage.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Axel Sandin-Pellikka, who won a Swedish Hockey League title together in Skelleftea in 2023-24, combined for a goal and four assists to help the Griffins build the 3-1 lead.

Brandsegg-Nygard’s goal and two assists came after Grand Rapids coach Dan Watson moved him to the top line and shifted Dominik Shine to his previous spot with Amadeus Lombardi and Carter Mazur.

After the Griffins’ 2-1 home loss in Game 1, Watson said the team was going to need more out of the team’s top line. The top line hadn’t scored in the playoffs before Sheldon Dries scored a power play goal on a rebound after a shot from Brandsegg-Nygard at 2:42. Sandin-Pellikka added the other assist.

Eighty-six seconds later, Brandsegg-Nygard added his third goal of the postseason to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.

After Felix Ungar Sorurm scored for Chicago to cut the margin to 2-1, Eduards Tralmaks scored a second Grand Rapids power play goal on a goalmouth jam. MBN and ASP drew the assists.

But the Wolves made Grand Rapids fans nervous when Ivan Ryabkin scored late in the period to cut home team’s lead to 3-2.
