The start of the Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason has had one storyline surrounding the organization, which is its search for the next general manager. This search began after the organization relieved Daryl Morey of his duties in the Sixers’ front office, a spot that he had held since November 2020.
Former Golden State Warriors executive and current President of Sports for Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, the ownership group that owns the Sixers, Bob Myers, has stepped in to help oversee the search.
While earlier reports indicated that Philadelphia had potentially been looking at the likes of Neil Olshey, Vince Rozman, Mike Gansey, and Nick U’Ren, it appears that yet another name has been added to the shortlist.
As reported by Jake Fischer, in a post on The Stein Line, the Sixers are to consider current Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd to fill in Morey’s shoes.
“Sources say Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey and Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd, both of whom just interviewed for the Chicago vacancy that went to Graham, are likely to meet with Myers this week,” Fischer stated.
Who is Lloyd?
As previously explained, Lloyd is currently serving as the general manager for the Timberwolves, having been promoted to the spot in July 2024, after serving as the Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations for Minnesota for two years.
The Western conference contenders aren’t the only organization that Lloyd has been a part of, spending time with the Orlando Magic for close to a decade, as well as the Chicago Bulls, starting out as a media coordinator and growing up to be the Director of College Scouting, according to RealGM.
