The Boston Red Sox’ offense has been the bane of their team this season, as while their pitching would dominate, their stagnant offense would lose them games.

However, it seems like that is starting to change. With a couple injuries to some of their slumping players, the Sox dipped into their AAA roster to bring some guys up. The two they got, Mickey Gasper and Nick Sogard, have been actually great bats for Boston.

When Gasper was first called up, he blew offensively. In 13 games in 2024, he wasn’t able to record a hit for the Red Sox. After that season, they traded him to the Minnesota Twins for Jovani Moran, who has become a key reliever for Boston.
Minnesota then waived him, and the Sox reacquired him, putting him on the AAA roster. He was then called up when Roman Anthony went on the IL, and since then, he’s been great. He’s slashing .344/.364/.406/.770 with two doubles and two RBI in 10 games.
He’s become a key hitter for the Sox, getting on base and pushing runners over.

Sogard was a key hitter last postseason for the Red Sox, as he was one of the few guys to consistently make contact against the New York Yankees rotation.
That consistency has continued to this season, when he was called up to replace Trevor Story when he was put on the IL. Sogard is now slashing .286/.375/.357/.732 with a double and two RBI in four games.
While he isn’t hitting for power in his small sample size, he’s making consistent contact and moving runners, something Boston desperately needs.

Now that they’ve got two guys hitting for consistency, all the Sox need is a bit more power. Whether that be a trade for someone now or at the deadline, all the Sox need is a semi-consistent hitter who can put the ball out of the park.
If they can do that, Gasper, Sogard and whoever they add could be the key reasons their offense finally wakes up.
