Stranded dog

According to National Sea Rescue Institute Hermanus station commander Edrich Kotze, the woman spotted what appeared to be a stranded dog on a sheer incline below the cliff path and immediately contacted emergency responders.

NSRI Hermanus duty crews were activated at 09:37, while the Hermanus Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) dispatched an animal handler to assist.

Kotze said rescuers had to negotiate steep and barely accessible terrain to reach the animal.

In a coordinated effort between NSRI volunteers and HAWS officials, the dog was safely removed from the cliffside and taken to a secure area.

The rescue operation was successfully completed at 10:26.

Appeared healthy

The male dog was found unharmed and appeared to be healthy.

The dog has since been transported to HAWS, where it will receive care and rehabilitation while efforts continue to trace its owner.

NSRI praised the quick action of the local Good Samaritan who alerted authorities, saying her intervention helped ensure the successful rescue.
