Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill produced a breathtaking moment in the field during GT’s high-stakes IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, pulling off a sensational diving catch to dismiss the dangerous Shivam Dube.

The catch came during a one-sided contest that saw Gujarat Titans officially eliminate CSK from the playoff race while also sealing a top-two finish for themselves. GT ended the league stage with nine wins and five defeats from 14 matches, completing a dominant season double over Chennai.

Chasing a massive target of 230, CSK’s innings fell apart early as they slumped to 29/3 under relentless pressure from GT’s pace attack. However, Shivam Dube launched a stunning counterattack that briefly gave Chennai hope. The left-hander smashed 47 runs off just 17 balls, hammering four sixes and four boundaries in a fearless assault that threatened to shift momentum back towards CSK.

But just as Dube looked set for something special, Gill stepped up with a game-changing effort in the field. Attempting another big hit off a length delivery from Rashid Khan's over, Dube mistimed the shot high over the infield. Gill sprinted backward from the cover region, kept his eyes fixed on the swirling ball, and completed a superb full-length diving catch inches above the turf to send the CSK batter back to the pavilion.

The GT captain then added more drama to the moment with an animated celebration. After securing the catch, Gill turned towards the crowd and gestured for the CSK supporters to stay silent, signaling the end of Chennai’s final realistic hopes in the contest.

Earlier in the match, GT’s top order had completely dominated proceedings after being sent in to bat first. Gill smashed 64 off 37 deliveries while Sai Sudharsan continued his remarkable season with a fluent 84 off 53 balls. Jos Buttler then provided the late fireworks with a blistering unbeaten 57 off just 23 deliveries as Gujarat piled up a daunting 229/4.

CSK never recovered from the early blows delivered by Mohammed Siraj, who removed Sanju Samson for a duck and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply. Despite Dube’s explosive cameo, Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada cleaned up the lower order as CSK were bowled out for just 140 in 13.4 overs.
