Whoever was shooting at this driver on Highway 401 in Mississauga, the goal was to kill. It was just centimetres from that happening.
Eight bullet holes pierced the vehicle, making it a miracle that the operator of this car, or any potential passengers, did not die. There is no question that ending life was the shooter’s goal. This was a shooting up of a moving car on Hwy. 401 overnight that looked like something from a movie.
But this was real. Terrifyingly real.
It seems at about 2:15 a.m. Friday near the Mavis Road exit, near Winston Churchill Boulevard, one car pulled up to another and unloaded a barrage of bullets into the driver’s side door.

Three of the bullets went into the driver’s side door and two were effectively headshots through the window of the car where the operator’s head could have been. It has the appearance of someone being able to have close proximity, perhaps from a passenger seat, to be able to aim and fire rapidly.
Miraculously, the driver survived – although it is unclear if any of the bullets struck anybody in the car.
There seems to have been no trip to the hospital.
Peel Regional Police indicated the driver was able to get off the highway and call police for help. Police told the Toronto Sun that the OPP are now handling this strange case.
The OPP have not commented so far.
The key questions are what happened before this shooting? Where was this car? Is this a road-rage situation or a targeted crime?
Time will tell.
If anybody has any dashboard footage, they can turn that over to police or through Crime Stoppers. Highway shootings are very concerning on many levels. And they are not new. Highways 401 and 403 have seen numerous attacks like this.
In fact, in December, there was a similar case near Milton. It’s always a worry as well that a bullet could ricochet and strike an unintended target.
After this incident, the OPP shut down the highway overnight, but it is back open now.
Watch for updates.
