Penn State receives football commitment of talented two-sport athlete

· Yahoo Sports

Penn Statre went into the holiday weekend looking to wrap up a few more commitments in its efforts to round out its Class of 2027. The addition of a rising three-star tight end out of New Jersey helped set off the recruiting fireworks early on in the weekend. Sean Currie, from Lawrenceville, New Jersey became one of the most recent additions to Penn State's recruiting class with a verbal commitment on Friday, May 22.

Currie committed to Penn State over offers from a number of notable schools that includes Ohio State, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Virginia. Currie is ranked as the 15th overall player in the state of New Jersey according to 247Sports' composite ranking. Currie is scheduled to make an official visit to Penn State in June.

Currie is the second tight end committed to the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2027. He joins four-star Cooper Terwilliger out of South Dakota in the recruiting class. But what makes this an even more interesting commitment is Currie was also previously committed to play lacrosse for national powerhouse Virginia. Given the rise of Penn State lacrosse on the national scene, this could be great news for Penn State's lacrosse program if he plays both sports.

Penn State has developed a pretty solid track record of developing tight ends to thrive in college and go on to the NFL over the years. Of course, much of that work was done under the previous coaching staff led by James Franklin, who is now at Virginia Tech after being removed as head coach of the Nittany Lions midway through the disappointing 2025 season.
