And Shirilla apparently believes she stands a good chance of walking free.
The teen temptress is serving 15 years to life in prison for slamming her car into beau Dominic Russo, 21, and Davion Flanagan, 19, on July 31, 2022. In a new Netflix documentary, The Crash, the now 21-year-old Shrilla claims she blacked out and has no recollection of slamming into a wall at 160 km/h.
She was just 17 at the time of the incident. Home is now the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville.
Jailhouse lover spills the beans
Now, jailhouse lover Shyann Topping, 27, is detailing Shirilla’s mean girl antics in lockup and her aspiration for C-list celebrity when she gets out of the clink.
“She said she was just gonna live it (if she gets out),” Topping told the U.K. Sun in an exclusive interview. “Like she’s gonna go back to concerts. She’s gonna travel.”
Topping said the deadly driver exuded a “popular girl aura” and seemed “pretty and bubbly.” At first she believed her new lover was innocent. That view would change.
“I thought, OK, if this girl really is innocent, it would be an amazing story to get out, write a book and blow up off of that and even honour your boyfriend and his friend,” Topping said. “Then if she did blow up, OK, she could set the families off with her, what is it? Publishing money.”
Topping now believes Shirilla is guilty, adding that behind prison bars she is known as “Shirilla The Killa.”
“Now I’m thinking, OK, she was just trying to grab a piece of fame,” Topping said. “I don’t think she would do any of that for the families if she got out. I think she would throw up a big middle finger to them like, ‘I got away with it’.”
In a continuation of her courtroom hijinks, Shirilla claimed a condition caused her to have a seizure and crash her car. Topping — and the prosecutors — said “everybody knows it’s not true.”
Her lover claimed she never saw any indication that Shirilla suffered from any kind of malady, let alone seizures.
‘I’ve never seen her sad’
“And then she’s gonna say, go out there, appeal, appeal, appeal, appeal, going with that theory,” Topping added. “It’s not gonna work. You have to show remorse. You at least gotta tell the families what happened.”
She added: “It was always bubbly, smiley, happy, line-dancing every Friday. I’ve never seen her sad, honestly. She just stays real busy all day.”
Topping believes her ex-girlfriend should be in a maximum security prison instead of the plush medium-security crowbar hotel where she now resides.
Shirilla’s jailhouse entitlement should come as no surprise. Before she was convicted, she was a frequent flier on Instagram and TikTok. In prison, she has continued to post selfies to her social media pages.
The old videos featured the young killer dancing, throwing poses and wearing revealing outfits. One featured her smoking a joint while she was behind the wheel.
But there is a cold, hard reality staring Shirilla square in her face: Her appeals have all been denied. She will be eligible for her first parole hearing in 2037.
