I'm curious how the Toronto Blue Jays currently feel about their season, as there's been a lot to like for Toronto in recent weeks when healthy, while the injuries over the past few months are tough to ignore.

If the Blue Jays aren't healthy at the deadline and continue to be a .500 team, there really isn't much of a reason for them to go out and try to make a blockbuster deal.

While there are expected to be a few very good players available at the deadline, including left-handed starter Tarik Skubal, unless the Blue Jays know that he's going to take an extension with them upon making the trade, or they're in a position to win a World Series, it's probably best to lay off. The reason is what the Blue Jays would have to give up, with one writer saying that JoJo Parker would have to be part of the deal.

“The top hitting prospect in the Blue Jays system, Parker is still at least a few years out from his MLB debut. That said, another premium infield bat to develop behind (and eventually alongside) Kevin McGonigle could mean the Tigers are set at third base and shortstop for the next decade.

“Parker has decent speed and a strong arm, which means he probably projects at the hot corner, with McGonigle assuming shortstop duties long term,” Christopher Kline wrote.

Parker was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 2025 MLB Draft, going eighth overall.

During his short time in professional baseball, he's definitely proven that he can be a very good player one day. Obviously, if the Blue Jays were in a position to compete for a World Series and Skubal is indeed available, moving on from Parker would make sense. Sadly, because that hasn't been the case this year, it's probably best to lay off for now.
