Did you really think the 2026 Formula One engine regulation drama was just going to stay in the boardroom? Think again. The political battle has officially spilled over onto social media, and Jos Verstappen just delivered a completely ruthless knockout punch to former Haas boss Guenther Steiner.

If you’ve been following the paddock chatter, you know Max Verstappen has been relentlessly criticizing the upcoming 2026 rules. The four-time world champion hasn’t held back, comparing the new power units to “Formula E on steroids” and even “Mario Kart”. But Steiner, who is now an analyst and the CEO of the Tech3 MotoGP team, isn’t buying the complaints.
Steiner’s Podcast Provocation
Speaking on the Red Flags Podcast, Steiner suggested that Verstappen’s constant complaining is entirely political. He argued that the Red Bull driver is just frustrated because he isn’t dominating every single weekend anymore.
“Max Verstappen was a little happier because he was on the podium,” Steiner joked. “If he had won, I’m sure he would have been very happy. And then it would be the best rules ever”. Steiner doubled down, claiming that Max’s media narrative is just a calculated game to force the FIA into changing the upcoming engine regulations to suit Red Bull.
Jos Enters the Chat
You don’t take a swing at Max without dealing with his dad, and Jos Verstappen absolutely did not hold back. Jos replied directly to a quote graphic of Steiner’s comments on X. In classic, blunt Verstappen fashion, Jos fired back: “Hi Guenther. I understand why you not a F1 team boss anymore. The way you talk”.
Ouch. Reminding a guy who was unceremoniously dumped by Gene Haas that he’s out of a job? That is absolutely ice cold.
But Jos wasn’t the only one jumping to Max’s defense, either. Dani Juncadella, who shares a GT3 car with Max for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, also took a massive swing at Steiner’s credibility. Juncadella pointed out that Max has been warning everyone about the fundamental flaws in the 2026 rules since the early simulator days in 2023.
“Guy has warned everyone about the new rules since 2023, but the head of the consortium that took over the Tech 3 MotoGP team knows better,” Juncadella sarcastically tweeted.
When the drivers, the dads, and the former team bosses are all openly trading insults on social media, you know the political tension behind the scenes is at an absolute boiling point. Do you think Steiner will fire back, or has Jos officially shut this debate down?
