· Yahoo Sports

After two northern road trips to end November, the New Orleans Saints return home to host the Green Bay Packers to end the first week of December. The Week 13 contest is on Dec. 6, and could determine some critical postseason tiebreaker scenarios. It also marks the fourth NFC North foe the Saints will have faced on the 2026 schedule.

Green Bay went 9-7-1 last season, making the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years under coach Matt LaFleur. The Saints are coming off a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season. However, there is optimism behind second-year head coach Kellen Moore, quarterback Tyler Shough, and four wins in the last five outings to end 2025. This season will mark the 30th all-time meeting between the Saints and Packers. Here's a look at who has had the majority advantage.

Saints vs. Packers series history

  • Overall: 10-19
  • Home: 7-7
  • Last 10 matchups: 5-5
  • Last 5 matchups: 2-3
  • Longest winning streak: 7 (Packers; 1976-85)
  • Last meeting (2024): Packers (34-0)
  • Last meeting in New Orleans (2020): Packers (37-30)

Green Bay dominated the early portion of this series, winning 10 of the first 12 times they played the Saints between 1968 and 1985. The Packers also won four of their first five trips to New Orleans through 1984, including the first three times these teams played in the Superdome. New Orleans got their first win in the series down the stretch of the 1971 season, a 29-21 victory in Green Bay. The Saints finally got their first home win against the Packers in 1975, a 20-19 victory in Tulane Stadium.

After losing the first three times they'd face the Packers inside the Superdome, the Saints finally got their first win inside the stadium during the 1986 season with a 24-10 triumph. That also broke a seven-game losing streak to Green Bay dating back to 1976. The Saints would take down the Packers again in the Superdome the following year with a 33-24 win. It would be the first time New Orleans won consecutive matchups against Green Bay. However, the Packers would win the next three meetings between these teams through 1995.

Since then, the series has been fairly even, with New Orleans and Green Bay going 6-6 against each other since 2002. The Saints are 4-1 in designated home games against the Packers over that span. One of those, however, was a ''home'' game for New Orleans in Jacksonville to open the 2021 regular season. Hurricane Ida had temporarily relocated the Saints to begin that year, but the Saints answered adversity with a 38-3 thrashing of the Packers. It was the largest margin of victory by either team in this series. To that point, it had been the sixth time in eight meetings dating back to 2006 that the Saints had scored at least 30 points against the Packers.

Prior to this season's matchups, the Saints and Packers have played each other six times in the month of December. The Saints are just 1-5 in those games, including 1-2 when played in the Silverdome. This season's matchup will feature a showdown between two offensive coaches in LaFleur and Moore as well as a face-off between two rising young stars at quarterback in Shough and Jordan Love. However, don't underestimate the impact of two underrated defenses as each team looks to return to the postseason in this late-season conference showdown.
