As one of the biggest names in the WNBA, when Caitlin Clark or her team does well or badly, sports fans hear about it. So far in 2026, the latter of those two descriptors has been true with the Indiana Fever's tough start this season.

Heading into their game on Thursday night against the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed, the Atlanta Dream, the team has just a 4-4 record. On Tuesday afternoon, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham revealed that the team had a meeting to discuss recent events and how they must rebound, both on and off the court.

While some members of Indiana were a bit surprised that the press had already known about the meeting due to Cunningham sharing the news, the team showed poise and recognized their tough stretch.

Here's what Cunningham revealed about Indiana's recent player activities during a tough start.

Fever team meeting details

On Tuesday afternoon, it was revealed to the media by Cunningham that the Fever had a team meeting on the day prior. According to the 6-foot-1 guard, the team was together for "an hour and a half, almost two hours" discussing their struggles on both sides of the ball.

Here is Cunningham's full session with the media, including her meeting reveal that comes in around 2:45 of the video.

The meeting seems like it paid off, and the seven-year player shared that everyone looks to be in a better place after the get-together.

"We peeled back all of the layers," said Cunningham. "And so I think everyone’s on a good page right now, and we’re ready to work."

While Cunningham did share the news about the recent team meeting, hearing the press bring it up surprised Indiana star Kelsey Mitchell. Here is Mitchell's reaction to the news leaking about the team meeting, along with her words on the team's tough start to their 2026 campaign.

After the witty start to that interview, Mitchell dialed it back in. According to the team's leading scorer, "I think that hard times make you, or hard times can break you, and hopefully it won't break us," Mitchell said. "I think that losing is important. I think you find out a lot about yourself, about where you need to be, where you're missing a mark. And I think that I'm happy that it's happening now."

Fever head coach Stephanie White also gave her thoughts on the team meeting.

"I think anytime you get an opportunity to have authentic, real conversation, it’s good," said White. "Some of it’s execution and some of it’s learning one another and some of it’s dealing with all the things our team has to deal with."

Here is White's full conversation with the press.

Inside Fever's 'frustrating' season

Despite only playing eight games so far during the 2026 season, the Fever are not where they want to be. First, the team holds just a 4-4 record, just one season removed from when they took the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces to the maximum of five games in the 2025 Semifinals. Heading into Thursday's matchup with the East's No. 1 seed, the Dream, Indiana has lost two games in a row.

On top of their recent form, star Caitlin Clark has been rather inconsistent thus far. She was able to tally 32 points (7/17 3P) and eight assists on May 15 in a loss to the Washington Mystics. However, in her most recent outing against the Portland Fire, Clark put up a mere six points on 1/7 from the field and five personal fouls.

The dramatics have not ended involving Clark, either. Along with controversially walking out with  Morgan Wallen at his concert in Indiana just hours after a Fever loss, she was seen animatedly disagreeing with her head coach. The situation was so tense that rumors began circulating that Indiana would imminently fire White.

Here is a clip from that sequence, when the duo looked far from happy.

Before this, controversy also spiraled around the two when Clark's injury status was left in the air prior to a game. According to the Fever's head coach, the star was fine and would suit up for the team's May 20 game against Portland. Clark was absent from the injury report, up until gametime, when the Fever player did not suit up. The team received a warning from the WNBA, and nothing further.

Following the incident, Fever beat reporter Scott Agness reported on Clark's absence being linked to a "strategic management plan." However, on June 2, Agness revealed on his personal Substack page that the team had revoked his credentials due to “the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information” that happened when Clark was ruled out of May 20's game 100 minutes before tipoff.
