You just absolutely have to question what the Boston Red Sox have done over the past few years with this roster, and it's quite literally impossible to ignore at this point.

The Red Sox are still a good team on paper, but games aren't won on paper. We also have to look at some of the wrong moves the Red Sox have made, as they've made plenty from the Mookie Betts trade on.

The decision to move on from Rafael Devers doesn't seem to be the worst idea at the moment, but it's also fair to mention that he'd probably be playing much better in Boston if history says anything.

The decision to let Alex Bregman walk made absolutely no sense, and according to the latest report from an ESPN insider, it looks even worse just a few months later.

The Red Sox are reportedly in the mix to land players, and their biggest priority is landing a right-handed hitter.

“What I’ve heard today is, it’s not just that they are looking for a right-handed hitter, they are aggressively looking for a right-handed hitter and signaling to the industry, ‘Look, we’re willing to take on money. We’re willing to take on a lot of money,’” ESPN’s Buster Olney said on “Just Baseball Media.”

“Which, of course, raises the question, why didn’t you just pay Alex Bregman? But the way this is being interpreted is: Man, there’s some desperation setting in there in Boston because of this ugly start, how poorly they’re playing at home, winning a third of their games, struggling offensively and understanding they have an imbalance in their lineup.”

I don't know why the Red Sox would even consider adding an offensive player right now. At 10.5 games back and in last place in the American League East, it seems very unlikely that they'll have a chance to win the division.

The Red Sox might think they have a chance to make it in the Wild Card, and I don't think that's crazy to say, but they haven't exactly played well enough to suggest that's going to happen, so I'd probably be cautious about adding anybody right now.
