Seager Makes His Return to Rangers Special as HR Edges Guardians

· Yahoo Sports

On the first night that Corey Seager and Mitch Langford were back on the Texas Rangers' rooster, both played a part in helping the Rangers edge past the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 on Friday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Kumar Rocker got the start for Texas manager Skip Schumaker, going five innings, giving up two earned runs, walked one, and struck out five. Peyton Gray followed and worked 1.2 innings against the Guardians. He did not allow a hit and struck out two en route to getting the win, making his record 2-0 this season.

Latz Earns Ninth Save

Reliever Jalen Beeks worked one-third of an inning and picked up his sixth hold. Jacob Latz came on in the eighth inning and didn't allow a run. He gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out three as Latz earned his ninth save.

Parker Messick took the loss for the Guardians as his season record fell to 6-2. He worked 5.2 innings against the Rangers, giving up three earned runs, five hits, walked one, and struck out four. Messick gave up two home runs, the only runs that the Rangers scored against the Brewers.

Milwaukee came into Friday night's game as the leader in the National League Central Division. Matt Festa and Shawn Armstrong came on in relief and kept the Rangers' offense in check.

The Guardians' Travis Bazzana hit his fourth home run in the top of the first inning, giving Milwaukee an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, Austin Hedges singled to center and brought home Steven Kwan and Cleveland took a 2-0 lead.

For the Guardians, though, who have a couple of big boppers in their lineup, the scoring department was close for the rest of Friday night's game.

Rangers Scored All Three Runs in Sixth

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers posted their three runs on the strength of two home runs. Kyle Higashioka hit his fourth home run this season, a shot over the left-field wall. Seager then came up with Langford on base, and made his return in style.

Seager sent a Messick pitch over the left-center field wall. Langford scored ahead of Seager and that pretty much was the game right there.

Cleveland better not watch video of this contest. The Guardians were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while the Rangers were 1-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left three runners on base.

Rangers third baseman Josh Jung was 2-for-4 against Cleveland. Langford, Seager, and Higashioka all had just one hit apice.

The three-game weekend series continues on Saturday at Globe Life Field. Texas goes to 31-32 this season, still in second place in the American League West Division. The Guardians fall to 36-29 and maintain their first-place position in the AL Central Division.

For Rangers fans in attendance, it probably was a welcome sight to see both Seager and Langford back on the field.

Let's see if they can keep making contributions in this series at Globe Life Field.
