Eskom announces a 16-hour power outage in Gauteng on Friday
· The South African

Eskom has confirmed that Blocks C, X and X Ext, Hebron, Itsoseng, Libanon, Mabopane Blocks U and UX, and Morula View will lose power on Friday, 12 June. The power outage is part of planned maintenance on the utility’s distribution network and is not related to load shedding or an emergency fault.
The power cut will begin at 7:00 and end at 23:00, a 16-hour power outage that will run through the full day and into the late evening.

Why is the power being cut by Eskom?
Eskom says the shutdown is necessary to carry out essential maintenance on distribution power lines in the Mabopane area.
“The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,” Eskom said in a notice published through its Gauteng Cluster Connect newsletter.
The utility stressed that this type of planned maintenance is critical to keeping the network functional and reliable for residents over the long term.
Safety warning for residents
Eskom is urging residents in the affected areas to take precautions throughout the duration of the outage. The utility specifically warned that electrical appliances should be treated as live at all times, even when the power appears to be off.
“Customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” Eskom said.
Residents are advised to unplug sensitive electronics, store water if their supply depends on electric pumps, and make alternative arrangements for heating given the cold June temperatures.
What if the outage runs longer?
Eskom included a disclaimer noting that circumstances beyond the utility’s control, such as adverse weather or unforeseen technical complications, could affect the schedule. Should that happen, the restoration time may be adjusted.
The utility apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause and thanked customers for their patience and cooperation.
