The Atlanta Braves are once again holding their breath over the health of star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. after he exited Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox with an apparent lower-leg injury.

The concerning moment occurred in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Acuña hit a ground ball deep to the left side of the infield. White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas fielded the ball and fired a throw that bounced to first base. Although the throw narrowly beat Acuña to the bag, the Braves star appeared to begin limping several steps before reaching first.
Acuña immediately showed visible frustration after the play. He removed his batting gloves while walking gingerly off the field before heading directly to the visitors’ clubhouse. The Braves replaced him in right field with Eli White as team trainers and coaches monitored the situation. The severity of the injury was not immediately known following his departure.
Acuña Jr. suffers apparent leg injury
The latest setback comes after a string of injury concerns that have followed Acuña in recent seasons. The 2023 National League MVP missed significant time after suffering a torn ACL in 2024 and has also dealt with hamstring, Achilles and thumb issues since returning to action. Earlier this season, Acuña spent time on the injured list with a hamstring injury and later exited a game against Miami because of a thumb bruise, though X-rays were negative.
Acuña had been working to regain his elite form while battling through health issues. The five-time All-Star and former MVP remained one of baseball’s most dynamic players thanks to his combination of power and speed, highlighted by his historic 40-homer, 70-steal campaign in 2023.
For the Braves, the hope is that Tuesday’s scare proves to be minor. However, given Acuña’s recent injury history and the visible discomfort he showed while leaving the field, Atlanta will anxiously await further medical updates in the coming hours.
