Report: Nets could trade down from No. 6 pick in 2026 NBA Draft
· Yahoo Sports
The Brooklyn Nets have until Jun. 23 to decide who they will be taking with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to be part of the rebuild. Brooklyn is still looking to add talent to the roster, but given their 20-62 record in the 2025-26 season, they could be looking to add more than just one player and that could lead to them shaking things up.

"There is a sense in opposing front offices that Brooklyn could trade down from this spot, whether it’s with a team trying to leap way up the board or even up just one spot in the Kings or two spots in the Hawks," Kevin O'Connor wrote of the Nets in his latest mock draft for Yahoo! Sports. O'Connor projects for Brooklyn to take Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. with the No. 6 pick, but there's a possibility that the Nets try to accomplish their goal in a different way.
"Weeks ago I reported the Kings are widely believed to be targeting Acuff, so that’s in part why he’s the pick here for Brooklyn. Want your guy? Trade for him," O'Connor continued while explaining why the Nets would choose Acuff at that spot. "Acuff would make sense for the Nets anyway given the need for a face of the franchise. Acuff is not the biggest guard or the most explosive athlete, but he reads defenses like someone who's been in the league for a decade."
While Brooklyn would not be making a bad decision by selecting someone with the No. 6 pick, there is an argument for them to consider what they could get from a team like the Sacramento Kings or Atlanta Hawks for their pick. For example, in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacerstraded the No. 7 pick to the Washington Wizards (later became Bilal Coulibaly) in exchange for the No. 8 pick and two second-round picks.
Assuming that the Nets are willing to trade down, they could be compensated to the tune of some second-round picks and if they're willing to move into the late Lottery, they could be looking at some first-round picks as compensation. Either way, Brooklyn has plenty of options to consider as they're hoping to improve significantly over the course of this offseason after another rough losing season.
