Scotland will face Haiti this evening as both sides kick off their World Cup campaign at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The two sides have never met before, making this somewhat of a historic occasion in multiple ways.
This will be both sides’ first World Cup game this century, with Haiti’s last appearance coming over 50 years ago, in 1974, when they lost to Argentina, Poland and Italy by comfortable margins. Meanwhile, Scotland’s last time out on the big stage was a 3-0 loss to Morocco in 1998; interestingly, they also faced Brazil in that group, both of whom make up the remainder of Group C this time round.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke has said that his side “Want to do something special” at this tournament, and with what is likely their most straightforward group stage game up first, they have a good chance of starting strongly. However, Haiti will also see this as a good chance to get off to a strong start, having won two of their last five games in preparation for the tournament. In terms of FIFA World Rankings, Scotland are certainly the favourites, they’re ranked 42 whilst Haiti sit 83rd.
The Tartan Army come into this game in superb form, having thrashed Curacao and Bolivia 4-1 and 4- respectively, in their pre-tournament friendlies. They also qualified for the tournament at the top of their group, with a thrilling 4-2 win over Denmark in the final matchday, their crowning moment.
Haiti meanwhile qualified as winners of Group C in the CONCACAF qualifiers, having won three, drawn two and lost just one of their games. Their standout moment of the qualifying campaign was a 1-0 home win over Costa Rica, who missed out on the World Cup for the first time since 2010 despite being 53rd in the FIFA World Rankings.
Haiti’s talisman during qualification was 32-year-old centre-forward Duckens Nazon. He has not found the net for his country since October 10th 2025, when he scored the opener in a 3-0 win over Nicaragua.
Scotland’s starman is, of course, Scott McTominay, whose stats speak for themselves since his move to Napoli in 2024. The midfielder has 27 goals for the Italian side in 80 appearances so far, as well as finding the net 15 times in 70 caps for Scotland so far in his career, including a magnificent overhead kick in the aforementioned win over Denmark.
The game will kick off at 2am (UK time) on Sunday, June 14th.
