SASSA announces old-age grant payment date for July 2026
· The South African

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that it will pay the Older Persons Grant on 2 July. The agency announced on 20 March 2026 that the National Treasury had approved the 2026/2027 social grant payment schedule.
SASSA applies a staggered payment system each month, ensuring elderly beneficiaries receive their funds as early as possible. The agency deliberately schedules the Older Persons Grant first, ahead of disability and children’s grants, to reduce congestion at pay points.

Why does the SASSA payment date fall on a Wednesday
SASSA selects payment dates carefully. The agency does not make payments on the 1st of the month, on Mondays, or on days following a public holiday. If any date falls on a weekend or holiday, payment shifts to the next working day.
“Payments should not be made on the 1st of the month or a Monday,” the media statement reads, explaining the scheduling logic that protects beneficiaries from crowded queues and banking system delays.
What Beneficiaries Must Do Before 2 July
SASSA urges all Older Persons Grant recipients to confirm that their banking details are up to date before the payment date. Beneficiaries who collect cash at pay points should bring their SASSA card and a valid form of identification.
